Comtesse Thérèse of Aquebogue, New York is a small, artisanal wine producer, as well as owner/operator of The Tasting Room.

With its first commercial sales in August 2003, things are already off to a good start. In 2004, a year after releasing its first wines to the public, the 2002 Hungarian Oak Merlot was named "Best Merlot in New York " at the New York Wine & Food Classic, out of 54 merlots and 194 wineries across New York state, and also won "Best New Winery " in Dan's Best of the Best. In 2005, the winery won "Best Chardonnay " in Dan's Papers "Best of the Best".

The principal owner of Comtesse Thérèse is Theresa K. Dilworth, Esq., an international tax attorney for Pfizer in Manhattan and 4th generation Long Islander. Her grandmother's grandmother's family was in the vineyard business in Alsace, northeastern France, which at the time was German.

The vineyard in Aquebogue is not currently open to the public; however, it plans to open to the public in the summer of 2007.

Ms. Dilworth is the only female Head Winemaker on Long Island. Wines are made using native, wild yeasts, and are manipulated as little as possible, without racking, fining or filtration. She is one of the very few winemakers anywhere using Hungarian and Russian oak barrels, in addition to the more common French and American oak.

Theresa Dilworth is planning to open a wine tasting room and eventually a bistro on the Main Road in Aquebogue, minutes away from the Aquebogue estate vineyard. Located in a historic house dating from the 1830's, renovations and permit applications are under way.
