Though small and relatively unknown compared to most other wine regions of the world, Long Island, New York has received national recognition in publications such as the Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate, and others; and has been repeatedly hailed as the "next Napa" and the "next Bordeaux".
OUR HISTORY
The Tasting Room started up in its present Peconic location in May of 2003, as the exclusive wine tasting and sales location for three small Long Island wineries - Broadfields Cellars, Schneider Vineyards, and Sherwood House Vineyards (at that time, Broadfields operated The Tasting Room on behalf of all.). In August 2003, Comtesse Thérèse joined the group. None of the participating wineries had their own separate tasting rooms. A couple of years later, Broadfields opened a second cooperative tasting room in Jamesport.
In October 2005, Broadfields sold its vineyard and Tasting Room business to Leucadia National Corporation, owner of Pine Ridge in Napa Valley. Leucadia closed down both Tasting Room locations in March 2006. In July 2006, Comtesse Thérèse took over as operator and reopened only the Peconic location, together with wines of the original Schneider Vineyards and Sherwood House Vineyards, and has since added other vineyards.
Now in its seventh year of operation, The Tasting Room continues to showcase only hand-crafted, limited release, boutique wines. The Tasting Room is the sole Long Island tasting location for all the wines represented, except for Sherwood House, which now has a tasting shed open seasonally at its vineyard from end of May through October.
The Tasting Room is not a wine shop, it is the direct representative of the various wineries and vineyards that participate.
Because we carry several high-quality Long Island vineyards, we are able to offer our customers an ever-changing but always top-notch sampling of some of Long Island's best small-producer wines. In fact, a comment we hear very often from our customers at The Tasting Room is "I like all the wines you have here."
